12-Week Sub 1:50 Training Plan

The "Fragmented Time" approach for runners with busy schedules.

How to Train While Busy (My Civil Engineering Story)

When I was training for my sub-1:50 half marathon, I was a senior civil engineering student buried in coursework and lab reports. Finding a solid 2-hour block for a Long Slow Distance (LSD) run on weekends felt impossible. Most generic plans failed me because they demanded perfect, uninterrupted schedules.

The "Fragmented Time" Strategy: Instead of obsessing over single massive workouts, I split my volume. I replaced one standard 15km run with two high-quality 7.5km runs (one in the early morning, one late at night). This kept my cardiovascular load high without failing my structural analysis class.

Key Takeaway for Sub 1:50: You do not need to run 20km every Sunday. If you can consistently hit 4x1km intervals at 4:45/km pace on Tuesdays, and string together an accumulated 40km of volume throughout your busy week, your body will be physiologically ready to hold a 5:13/km pace on race day.
